Vitruvius Yachts reveals confidential 125m national flagship design

Organisers of the 37th America’s Cup have confirmed the dates and scheduled for the 2024 regatta. Taking place in Barcelona, the event will kick off on Saturday 12 October and wrap up on Sunday October 20, with two races held on each official day of the regatta.

What to do in Barcelona

  • Newport is as much a tourist town as it is a seafarer city
  • The park is on the waterfront, which means boats can anchor out
  • The most famous harbor on Narragansett Bay is the one Newport

No trip to Barcelona is complete without a visit to Parc Guëll, another one of Gaudi’s many masterpieces scattered throughout the city. The park sits a little further out from the heart of Barcelona but is just a short drive away.

Official racing days are on the 12, 13, 19 and 20 October. The Women’s America’s Cup Regatta Final will be held on October 16, while October 18 will serve as a spare race day. There are a further three days marked as reserve race days, which can be used at the discretion of organisers dependent on weather and water conditions.

The news comes after Barcelona was named as the host of the America’s Cup in March. The city was chosen for a variety of reasons, including its racing facilities, technical infrastructure and large on-shore area for hosting spectators, hospitality and media. The region also benefits from 9-15 knots of wind during the September race window, making it ideal regatta conditions.

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron is the current holder and Trustee of the America’s Cup. “Barcelona holds a very special place in New Zealand’s sailing history and we remember with pride the success of our 1992 Olympic Games sailing team and four medal result,” said commodore of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Aaron Young.

This year will be the first time the event has been held in Barcelona, making the city the first venue to host both an Olympic Games and an America’s Cup. The 2024 event will also be the first edition to include a specific Women’s America’s Cup regatta.

Often regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious superyacht regattas, the St Barths Bucket welcomes some of the finest sailing talent from around the world to the port of Gustavia each year for three days of racing around the breezy Caribbean islands. After a two year hiatus, the Bucket is back from March 17 to March 20 with an impressive lineup of thirty yachts, each vying for the top prize.

The new model features redesigned edges and water release points for a smoother, more stable ride on the water.

She features all-aluminium construction and both interior and exterior design have been completed in-house by Perini Navi.

Ahpo saw owner Michael Lee-Chin reunite with Nuvolari Lenard, Lürssen and Moran Yacht & Ship – the same team that had worked on the creation of the 86 metre Quattroelle. One of the most talked about launches of the year, his new build was a big step forward in terms of size (she is 5,257 gross tonnes compared to Quattroelle’s 2,925), complexity and detail.

When it comes to Perseverance 1, what you see is not entirely what you get. The yacht’s classic pilot-cutter exterior, complete with traditional wood-clad deckhouses, conceals a high-tech hybrid propulsion system and other energy-saving items that saw her crowned Sailing Yacht of the Year.

But as this issue of Yachting went to press, all of the pandemic’s problems seemed poised to turn around. Normalcy may not fully resume during the boating season this summer and early fall, but NYC mayor Bill de Blasio says there is reason to expect and hope that change for the better is coming including the “Great White Way” resuming activity by September, even if he has to “move heaven and earth to bring Broadway back.”

It’s a truly odd thing to think about New York City with visitors to iconic places such as the Guggenheim Museum being down 70 percent.

In January 2020, Broadway ticket sales generated more than $150 million. In January 2021, that figure was zero. In fact, heading into the boating season, there were lots of signals that boaters tying up in the city would have things to see and do. Yankee Stadium, which was a COVID-19 vaccination site during the spring, was reopening with limited capacity for fans who want to see a game in person.

If you tie up at Chelsea Piers, you’ll be on the West Side of Manhattan near the Whitney Museum of American Art, whose Julie Mehretu and Madeline Hollander exhibitions run through August. A Jasper Johns exhibition opens in September. You’ll also be near the Museum of Illusions, which is set up for kids and adults alike to explore holograms, games, puzzles and more.Next

Dive right in: exploring Cuba’s bountiful marine life on board Far From It

A true highlight was passing through the Panama Canal from the Atlantic to the Pacific side on Vijonara. The canal is an engineering masterpiece, opened in 1914 and operating flawlessly ever since. They can fill a lock, using only gravity, with about 300 million litres of water in eight minutes. The scale is mind-boggling, and I’m happy we got to experience it.

Yes, that will make a huge difference to comms on board. The new marine Starlink antenna will give us high-speed broadband at sea even in the middle of the Pacific. I have been following the developments closely for a couple of years and have been speaking to the SpaceX team, as it will revolutionize yacht communications.

The Eastbay 60 is a gorgeous design with a slippery, fuel-efficient hull and we have changed the interior layout to move the galley down and give longer sight lines to make it feel more open. We’ve installed a Humphree electronic fin stabilizer package so she will be rock steady and with Volvo IPS drives very easy to manoeuvre. I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel.
